Common Questions?

Wooden Sunglasses

Are wooden sunglasses durable?

Yes wooden sunglasses are durable and will stand up to everyday life. Wood is a very strong and ecologically sound material.

Wooden sunglasses are beautiful handcrafted works of art. Treat them with the care they will give you many many years of enjoyment. Make sure you keep them in the bamboo box or a safe place when not being worn. Do not store your sunglasses loosely or in the soft case within your bag, pocket or on a hot car dashboard as this can cause damage. It's also best to put them on with two hands to avoid putting strain on the arms.

As wood is buoyant, most of our sunglasses will float, however, as the range encompasses a few different designs we can't guarantee they all will.

Are my sunglasses waterproof?

They're water resistant, can take a splash and even be submerged but it's not a good idea to leave them soaking in water for long periods of time. Also like all sunglasses if they get dunked in seawater just rinse them off with fresh.

How should I take care of my sunglasses?

Keep sunglasses in the original box when not being worn. If you think the wood has become dry you can oil them with butchers block oil or wood beeswax.

Do not store your sunglasses loosely or in the soft case within your bag, pocket or on a hot car dashboard as this can cause damage to the frame and extreme heat can cause lenses to delaminate in rare occassions. It's also best to put them on with two hands and avoid storing them on top of your head as this can put strain on the arms and hinges over time.

Are your sunglasses polarized

Yes. All our lenses are polarized and UV400. They are constructed using the latest optical technology to produce rich vivid colours and clarity.

What is laminated wood?

If you can remember from woodwork class, laminated wood is thin veneers of wood glued and pressed together. In each layer the way the grain runs is alternated giving it lots of strength. Because of this our laminated sunglasses tend to allow thinner designs compared to some of the cheaper brands.

Can presciption lens be fitted into the Vilo sunglasses range?

No. The optical range has an innovative split design which allows a prescription lens to be fitted without breaking the frame.

Wooden Watches

Are wooden watches durable?

Yes, wood is a durable, natural and sustainable product which can stand up to everyday life. In saying that, like any watch you need to take basic care of it, such as not dropping it, hitting it and giving it a clean once in a while.

Are wood watches waterproof?

No they are not waterproof in terms of submersion, so you can't go swimming with it. They will however take a splash, it will cope with rain and you can wash the car whilst wearing one. The only limitation is it can't be submerged in water.

How do I set the time?

With the watch off your wrist, gently pull out the crown of the watch from it's locked position. Rotate the crown going away from you until you reach the correct time. Gently push the crown back in to start the mechanism and you're good to go.

On some watches where you can set the date there is a middle position when pulling out the crown. This middle section is for setting the date.

How do I take care of my wooden watch?

You can clean your watch by creating a mixture of a little bit of lemon juice and olive oil. Grab a cotton bud and clean around and into all the surfaces. Once finished just wipe away any residue with a cotton cloth.

How do I change the links on my wood watch?

This is easy job but needs to be done with care. If you'd prefer to have a professional do it, head down to your local watch shop and they can do it for the price of a coffee

Where your watch has wood links, you may need to remove some links to provide the perfect fit. Along with your watch will be the link removal tool.

Place the watch on your wrist and decide how many links you would like to remove. It's best to remove links evenly from each side.

With the watch taken off and resting on a soft surface, gently place the tool on the pin you wish to remove and push with gentle but steady pressure. Alternatively you can hold the tool steady and very gently use a hammer to push the pin through. If the pin does not come out it may mean you need to push from the other side. The pin will only come out easily one way with the larger end coming out first. On most of our watches this is indicated by an arrow on the link on the inside of the watch strap. Repeat this step until the desired number of links have been removed. Reconnect the links by pushing the pins back in the opposite direction to how it came out.
